Web 2.0 Expo Brings New Servers and Software to the Web

April 24, 2008 —  The lineup of Web 2.0 Expo exhibitors in San Francisco making announcements or demonstrating new products, yesterday, was impressive. Here is a snapshot of releases that promise to give Internet companies the systems and services they need to support their offerings.

IBM Promises Efficiency to Web 2.0 Companies
announced a new type of server design to help Web 2.0 companies build large data centers that can power their social networks, online gaming, search and other services. IBM said iDataPlex will be available in the U.S. and Canada in June and globally by the end of the year.

The iDataPlex system, leveraging IBM's Intel-based blade-server technology, doubles the number of servers that can run in a single IBM rack, while using less power, according to IBM. The system uses a liquid-cooled wall in the back that allows it to run at “room temperature,” eliminating the need for air conditioning.

The new rack system is meant to replace what IBM calls the inefficient "white-box" servers that are frequently used by Internet companies. These companies require richer content and more immediate access to Web-based applications, and iDataPlex helps them to scale rapidly to meet this need.

SnapLogic Makes Data Integration a Snap

SnapLogic, an open-source data integration company that uses simple web protocols to allow companies to create enterprise mashups, released SnapLogic 2.0. The company said that this new version is easier to use with extended visual tools. SnapLogic offers two editions of the software: SnapLogic Community Edition 2.0, which is available free of charge and licensed under the GPLv2, and SnapLogic Professional Edition 2.0, which can be licensed.

Vyew Brings Security to Web 2.0

Vyew, a provider of browser-based visual-collaboration and web-conferencing software, released Vyew Enterprise Appliance, a 1U server appliance for organizations that need optimal security for Web conferencing, remote training and visual collaboration. The appliance allows organizations to store data created in Vyew in their data centers and to administer Vyew and its users with an administrative console.

Symphoniq Addresses Web Visibility Challenges

Symphoniq, which provides real end-user performance monitoring, announced TrueView 2.0. According to the company, the product gives organizations the insight they need into Web applications, including , Flash/Flex and Silverlight, to optimize their infrastructure and address new performance challenges created by SOA, SaaS, Web services and Web 2.0.

3Tera Delivers Cloud Resources

Utility computing technology developer 3Tera introduced its Cloudware architecture "for cloud computing without compromise," offering access to hosted computing power based on 3Tera’s AppLogic grid hosting operating system. 3Tera said this architecture incorporates storage, computing, connectivity and security, the resources required to build and run applications in the cloud.
