FastScale Extends Composer Suite to Windows

September 15, 2008 —  FastScale Technology, a virtualization and provisioning software company, launched in July FastScale Composer Suite 2.0, a management solution that enables lightweight software provisioning of physical and virtual machines (VM) in large heterogeneous environments.

According to FastScale, Composer Suite 2.0 is the only product available that can fully automate the process of building, managing and deploying server software environments for enterprise class data centers and Web farms, whether the infrastructure is physical, virtual or both. Windows Server 2003 is now supported, along with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2. The FastScale version supported only prior versions of Linux.

Mark Bowker, analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), quoted a recent ESG survey showing that VM growth in production environments will more than double in the next two years, which will result in hybrid infrastructures running Linux and Windows servers in physical and virtual environments. Composer Suite 2.0 gives companies a single infrastructure for managing these hybrid environments, he said.

According to FastScale, virtual desktop infrastructures face many challenges when it comes to managing the provisioning of VMs. Composer Suite 2.0 automatically builds and deploys server software environments on-demand and provisions them to VMs in seconds—without requiring manual labor.
